San Francisco start-up reinventing the showerhead, 70% water savings
San Francisco, CA – August 11, 2015 – Nebia launches a new showerhead boasting a better experience than existing showerheads and 70% water savings. It goes on sale today on Kickstarter for $299.
The San Francisco based start-up is backed by some of the most prestigious angel investors in Silicon Valley, including Y-Combinator. Nebia, which uses 0.75 gallons per minute (GPM) compared to industry average 2.5 GPM, is sure to raise the eyebrows of many California residents who are looking to play their role in responding to the drought, and meet Governor Brown’s 25% mandatory cuts.
“Showers have been the same for 100 years. Not only do we need a more efficient solution, we need an all around better experience in our daily routines,” said Philip Winter, Co-Founder and CEO. “We set out to create a better shower experience first, and save as much water as possible. It turns out the age old belief that more water equals a better experience isn’t necessarily true.”
Nebia’s showerhead atomizes water into millions of tiny droplets, creating a surface area of water 10 times greater than that of a regular shower. Testers claim it provides a new and different experience, but much more refreshing and relaxing.
Nebia was developed over more than 5 years. Carlos Gomez Andonaegui, Co-Founder, Chairman & Chief Brand Officer was the CEO of a major health club in Mexico City when he and his father started tinkering to find a solution to reduce water consumption. Carlos paired up with Philip, and they moved the company to San Francisco a year later. Not long after they brought on Gabriel Parisi-Amon, who was working at Apple on the iPhone, as the third Co-Founder and CTO/COO.
The company has spent the past 12 months conducting beta tests with over 500 people showering at local institutions such as Equinox Gyms, Google, Apple, and Stanford University.
Nebia estimates total annual savings of 200 billion gallons of water and nearly $4 billion if all Californians were to switch to a Nebia shower. The existing U.S. showerhead market is dominated by a small handful of manufacturers, which have been around for several decades, or longer. Nebia sees this as an opportunity to create a consumer-facing brand based on a breakthrough technology, much the way companies such as Nest, Casper and Tesla have done. Nebia partnered with leading industrial design firm Box Clever to create a design that is iconic, elegant, and broadly functional, yet marks a new era for showerhead design. Nebia goes on pre-sale today for $299 on Kickstarter, full retail price is $399. Expected delivery is May 2016.
